Ritwik Jain featured in IJGT Photo of the Week – March 5, 2015

The IJGT returned to Hilton Head Island, S.C., to host the IJGT Junior at Palmetto Dunes on February 28-March 1, 2015. Cold temperatures, sporadic wind gusts and persistent rain in round two created challenging conditions for the junior golfers competing in the two-day, 36-hole event. But, the players overcame the weather to compete for IJGT Merit Points and national rankings while playing the par-70 George Fazio course.

IJGT Junior at Palmetto Dunes – Tour Preview

PalmettoDunes-GeorgeFazio #16

The IJGT will return to Hilton Head Island, S.C., to host the IJGT Junior at Palmetto Dunes on February 28-March 1, 2015.

The two-day, 36-hole event will be played on the George Fazio course, Hilton Head Island’s only par-70 public golf course. Named the 2014 South Carolina Golf Course of the Year by the SC Golf Course Owners Association, the Fazio course has just two par-5s to compliment a series of long par-4s. The challenging course features open, tree-lined fairways on the front nine, but the back nine becomes tighter and more severe.

The IJGT Junior at Palmetto Dunes features an exciting field of talented junior golfers. In the Girls Division, Yeji Ahn of Changwon-City, South Korea, is coming off back-to-back top-four finishes in the IJGT Junior at Hilton Head National and the Carolina Classic at Colleton River. Also keep an eye out for Sera Tadokoro of Osaka, Japan, who has three first-place finishes this season.

In the Boys 15-19 Division, Santiago Diaz of Merida, Mexico, is looking for his third IJGT championship of the season. He is currently ranked fifth on the International Junior Golf Tour and coming off a third-place finish in the Georgia Junior at Savannah Harbor.  Kanata Irei of Okinawa-shi, Japan, and Ritwik Jain of New Delhi, India, tied for fourth in another IJGT Junior this spring, the IJGT Junior at Hilton Head National, and will look to outdo one another at Palmetto Dunes.

Tennoshin Ogawa of Ichinomiya-shi, Japan, and Geuntae Kim of Daegu, South Korea, performed well in last season’s Major Championship at Palmetto Dunes: Ogawa finished second and Kim tied for fifth.

In the Boys 14 & Under Division, players to watch include York, Pa., native Evan Greenplate, Xiaofeng Hu of Qiang Dao, China and Chase Phillips of Hilton Head Island, S.C. Greenplate hasn’t finished below second place in an IJGT event this season. Phillips is coming off a win at the IJGT Junior at Hilton Head National and Hu is coming off a second-place finish in the Boys 14 & Under Division of the Lowcountry Junior at Wexford Plantation.

The field for the IJGT Junior includes competitors from 13 states and 16 countries. Juniors will be competing for national rankings and IJGT Merit Points during the tournament. Be sure to follow @IJGT on Twitter for live updates and download the IJGT app for live scoring.
