The IJGT’s Northeast Tour was in Rochester, N.Y., for The Upstate Challenge at Brook Lea Country Club. With ideal golfing weather the juniors recorded quality scores during both days of the tournament. Impressive play from Sean Stanistreet of Camillus, N.Y., and Caroline Yarnall of East Aurora, N.Y., earned the pair IJGT Player of the Week honors for the northeast this week.
Stanistreet of the Boys 15-19 Division, began the tournament with a slower than desired start, posting a round one score of 79 but returned for round two with a fire in his belly. With birdies on four holes, including the extremely difficult par-5 No. 2, Stanistreet shaved six strokes from his round one score and recorded a 1-over 73 for the final round. A solid swing off of the tee and clutch putting were the key to his impressive final round performance. His score was good enough to put him in contention down the stretch and landed him in a three-way tie for third place.
Yarnall of the Girls Division, maintained her consistent play throughout both rounds of the tournament. She made par on the difficult par-4 No. 8 on both days and also made par on the hazardous par-5 No. 10 on the final day. Her positive attitude carried her through her entire performance and the IJGT expects great things from her in the future.
Congratulations to both Sean Stanistreet and Caroline Yarnall with their praise-worthy performances this week. We wish them luck as they continue their golf play throughout the fall season.

The IJGT hosted the Lowcountry Open at Oldfield Golf Club in Okatie, S.C., on September 27-28, 2014, as a part of the 2014 fall Southeast Tour. The course was in great shape and despite the small amount of rain that was in the forecast, the players proceeded to shoot low rounds throughout the weekend. Following the event, Sophie Guo and Pongpalin Lapvisuttisin were named the Players of the Week in the southeast.
Guo was able to jump out to a first round lead by shooting a 1-under 71 on Saturday with back-to-back birdies on holes 13 and 14, and a streak of six consecutive pars on the front nine. In round two had a consistent finish by carding ten pars and three birdies, boosting her to her highest finish on tour to date, a second place finish only one stroke behind the leader.
In the Boys 15-19 Division, Lapvisuttisin nabbed Player of the Week honors thanks to yet another strong bid at a comeback on Sunday. Lapvisuttisin’s first round score of 77 landed him in a tie for 15th, however he recovered and shot a 1-under 71 on Sunday which put him in the hunt, along with giving him a share of the Clazic Belts Low Final Round Award for the weekend. Lapvisuttisin recorded even par on the front and finished his second round bogey-free on the back. Lapvisuttisin’s strong final round was enough to hoist him to a tie for eighth place in the tournament.
Congratulations to both Sophie Guo and Pongpalin Lapvisuttisin on their achievements and being named Southeast Players of the Week.
