Dhruva, Cordaro earn IJGT Player of the Week honors – March 17, 2015

The IJGT traveled to Lorton, Va., to host the first northeast event of the spring season, the IJGT Battle at Laurel Hill, on March 14-15, 2015. Juniors played through rain in round one and wind in round two of the two-day, 36-hole event. Following the tournament, the IJGT is proud to award Player of the Week honors to Katy, Texas native Ashni Dhruva and Anthony Cordaro of Pittsburgh, Pa.

Dhruva recorded the lowest score in the entire field in round one, an even-par 71. She carded a division-best five birdies on Saturday including back-to-back birdies on holes No. 4 and 5. Dhruva finished second in the Girls Division with a tournament total of 155. The IJGT Battle at Laurel Hill was Dhruva’s second IJGT event, she also finished second in the IJGT Junior at Palmetto Dunes earlier this month.

Cordaro knocked five strokes off his round one 84 to card a 79 in round two, good for a two-day total of 163 and a share of fourth place in the Boys 15-19 Division. He made par a division-best 20 times and his longest par-or-better streak came on holes No. 7 through 11 in round two.

Pulgini, Nakayama earn IJGT Player of the Week honors – March 3, 2015

The IJGT returned to Hilton Head Island, S.C., on February 28-March 1, 2015, to host the IJGT Junior at Palmetto Dunes. Juniors played through cold, rainy and windy conditions during the two-day, 36-hole event. The field competed for IJGT Merit Points and national rankings while playing the par-70 George Fazio Course. Following the event, the IJGT is pleased to award Player of the Week honors to Middletown, Del., native Matthew Pulgini and Yuki Nakayama of Kawasakishi, Japan.

Pulgini made par on twice as many holes in round two as in round one to knock eight strokes off his round one score. He carded back-to-back birdies on the par-3 hole No. 6 and the par-4 hole No. 7 on his way to a 3-over 73 in round two. His 154 tournament total landed him in a tie for fourth place in his first IJGT event.

Nakayama improved on her round one score of 87 by four strokes to shoot an 83 in round two. Her two birdies came on the par-5 10th hole in round one and the par-4 ninth hole in round two.

Wren, Phuchanbanchob earn IJGT Player of the Week honors – Feb. 24, 2015

The IJGT traveled to Savannah, Ga., on February 21-22, 2015, to host the Georgia Junior at Savannah Harbor. Although frost and sun showers threatened the fun on Saturday and Sunday, respectively, both days turned out to be pleasant. Both rounds of the two-day, 36-hole event began with a shotgun start. Following the event, the IJGT is pleased to award Player of the Week honors to Suffolk, Va., native Trey Wren  and Cake Phuchanbanchob of Chiang Mai, Thailand.

Wren made par or better on every hole but one on the front nine in round two. He carded four birdies in the second round, and six total. He finished round two with an even-par 72 giving him a tournament total of 150 and tying him for fourth in his division. Wren is currently ranked seventh in the Boys 15-19 Division of the International Junior Golf Tour.

Phuchanbanchob also made par or better on every hole but one on the front nine in round two, including a birdie on the par-4 ninth hole. She knocked four strokes off her round one 6-over 78 to shoot a 2-over 74 in round two. Her tournament total of 152 landed her in a tie for sixth place in the Girls Division. Phuchanbanchob currently ranks eighth in the Girls Division of the International Junior Golf Tour.

Tyler, Traynor earn IJGT Player of the Week honors – Feb. 17, 2015

The IJGT traveled to Kiawah Island to host the South Carolina Open at Kiawah Island over Valentine’s Day weekend. Juniors had the opportunity to play the renowned Ocean Course on February 14 and the Turtle Point course on February 15, 2015. During the two-day, 36-hole event, juniors competed in cold and blustery conditions for IJGT Merit Points and national rankings. Following the event, the IJGT is pleased to award this week’s Player of the Week honors to Seneca, S.C., native Jackson Tyler and Olivia Traynor of Villanova, Pa.

Tyler’s lone birdie on the difficult Ocean Course came on the par-3 fifth hole. He finished round one with a score of 91, tying him for 23rd place with one round left to play. Round two began with a shotgun start and Tyler started on the par-4 eighth hole. He made par on the first two holes he played and then carded two birdies on the back nine on the par-5 hole No. 13 and the par-4 hole No. 17. Tyler knocked an impressive 14 strokes off his round one score and shot a 77 in round two. His tournament total of 168 landed him in a tie for seventh place.

Traynor’s fourth-place finish in the South Carolina Open boosted her up 29 spots in the IJGT Tour Rankings. After shooting 104 in round one, Traynor birdied the par-3 seventh hole in round two and shot a 97 for a tournament total of 201. The 15-year-old Traynor also finished fourth in her only other IJGT tournament this season, the IJGT Philly Open at Radley Run Country Club.
