Pennsylvania Junior at Out Door Country Club – Final Results

Bennett fires 1-under, 71 to win title

Simpson collects first victory in Girls Division

YORK, Pa. – The International Junior Golf Tour (IJGT) continued the 2015 Fall Season with the Pennsylvania Junior at Out Door Country Club. Junior golfers ages 10-19 years old representing four different states competed in the 36-hole tournament for IJGT Merit Points and National Rankings.

Ford Bennett of Owings Mills, Md., earned the Boys 15-19 Division title with a superb final round of competition. Heading into the final round only one stroke back of first-round leader, MJ Bricker of York, Pa., Bennett knew that victory was well within his reach if he played to his capabilities.

In the final round, both players got off to solid starts with Bricker making the turn in 1-over, 37 and Bennett in 2-over, 38. Bennett, who trailed by two strokes heading into the last nine holes, got hot very quickly making four birdies on the back nine, including three in a row from holes Nos. 12-14. Bennett wound up shooting a 1-under, par 71 in the final round and finished with a tournament total of 148 which gave him a five-stroke victory.

Bennett’s final-round score of 1-under, 71 was the lowest round of the tournament in any division, and also earned him the Clazic Belts Low Final Round Award, which goes to the boy and girl who record the lowest final-round score at every IJGT tournament.

“I was one shot behind and I wanted to come out and shoot a low number. If I didn’t win it’s ok. I just wanted to have fun,” said Bennett.

Bricker finished in second place with a tournament total of 153. There was a tie for third place between Jack Halleron of Timonium, Md., and Jairus Gaines of Baltimore, Md., who recorded tournament scores of 155.

In the Girls Division, Charlotte Simpson of Towson, Md., was victorious after carding a tournament score of 164. Simpson built a large lead in the first round after she carded an 82 in cold and challenging conditions at Out Door Country Club. Simpson did not get off to a great start in the final round, but she rebounded quickly and saved her best for last carding a 39 on her back nine including a birdie on hole No. 14. Simpson ended the day with another 82 and the victory was her first of the 2015-2016 season equaling her total number of victories from the 2014-2015 season.

Abrams and Simpson both earned the Clazic Belts Low Final Round Award in the Girls Division with their scores of 82 on the final day.
