Gianelos featured in IJGT Photo of the Week – April 9, 2015

The IJGT Northeast Tour spent Easter weekend in Somers Point, N.J., where they hosted the Jersey Shootout at Greate Bay Country Club on April 4-5, 2015. During the two-day, 36-hole event, juniors competed for IJGT Merit Points and national rankings. The tournament also offered exemptions into the North American Junior Amateur and was a qualifier for the IMG Academy Junior World Championships. Following the tournament, a photo of Nicholas Gianelos was selected as the IJGT Photo of the Week.

Gianelos carded a 167 tournament total to finish ninth in the Boys 15-19 Division of the Jersey Shootout. He made par on both par-5s in both rounds.

Skae comes from behind to win Boys 15-19 Division

Ku wins Girls Division by 11 strokes 

The International Junior Golf Tour (IJGT) traveled to Somers Point, N.J., to host the Jersey Shootout at Greate Bay Country Club on April 4-5, 2015. Strong wind gusts on Saturday created challenging but manageable playing conditions. Juniors for IJGT Merit Points, national rankings and North American Junior Amateur exemptions during the two-day, 36-hole event.

Skae ARyan Skae (left) of Old Tappan, N.J., shaved 11 strokes off his round one score of 85 to card a 4-over 74 in round two, good for a 159 tournament total and a 2-stroke victory in the Boys 15-19 Division. Skae’s impressive second round also earned him the Clazic Belts Low Final Round Award, the award presented to the male and female junior to card the lowest score in the final round of the event.

Skae started the front nine strong in round two making par on the first four holes. He then opened the back nine by making par or better on the first four holes. He birdied the par-4 12th and par-5 15th holes in the second round to finish with an even-par 35 on the back nine.

Max Ting of Atherton, Calif., finished in second with a 161 tournament total. Yonkers, N.Y., native Sebastian Naibaho, who led the division after the first round, finished in third with a 163 tournament total.

Anina Ku AAnina Ku (left) of Basking Ridge, N.J. fired a 79 in the first round to lead the Girls Division by nine strokes. She carded an 83 in the second round to earn a 162 tournament total and a decisive 11-stroke victory. She also earned the Clazic Belts Low Final Round Award for the girls.

Ku carded back-to-back birdies on the par-3 16th and par-4 17th holes in round one.

Ami Gianchandani of Short Hills, N.J., finished in second with a 173 tournament total. Newcastle, Maine, native Bailey Plourde finished just one stroke behind Gianchandani with a 174 tournament total, good for third place.

Halleron AJack Halleron (left) of Timonium, Md., won the Boys 14 & Under Division by a single stroke finishing with a 171 tournament total. Halleron carded an 85 to lead the division by two strokes after the first round, but second-place finisher Ford Bennett of Owings Mills, Md., gave Halleron a run for his money. Bennett shot an 85 in the second round, one stroke away from forcing a playoff.

Bennett ended up finishing in second with a 172 tournament total. Yorktown, N.Y. native John Del Priore rounded out the Boys 14 & Under Division finishing third with a 179 tournament total.

The IJGT Northeast Tour will continue tournament play with the Pennsylvania Open at Nemacolin on April 11-12, 2015.

Jersey Shootout at Greate Bay – Round one recap (April 4, 2015)

The IJGT Northeast Tour traveled to Somers Point, N.J., to host the Jersey Shootout at Greate Bay Country Club. Juniors teed off in windy conditions beginning at 12 p.m. for round one of the two-day, 36-hole event. In review, below are each division’s leaders’ rounds, in numbers.

Anina Ku of Basking Ridge, N.J., leads the Girls Division. Her round in numbers:

9 – She leads the division by nine strokes

3 – Her three birdies in the first round pace the division

2 – She carded back-to-back birdies on the par-3 16th and par-4 17th holes

79 – Her opening round 79 was the best score in the field

Sebastian Naibaho of Yonkers, N.Y., leads the Boys 15-19 Division. His round in numbers:

1 – He leads the division by a single stroke

81 – His round one score to earn the lead

1 – His lone birdie came on the par-4 eighth hole

Jack Halleron of Timonium, Md., leads the Boys 14 & Under Division. His round in numbers:
