12 IJGT members advance to match-play competition at U.S. Junior Championships

Junior Amateur

After two rounds of competition at the U.S. Junior Amateur Championship and U.S. Girls’ Junior Championship, 12 IJGT members have advanced to the match-play competition! The first two rounds were filled with low scores from juniors from around the world, and the IJGT continued to represent well in these illustrious competitions. The top 64 golfers in the stroke-play competition advance on to the single-elimination, match-play competition.

In the U.S. Junior Amateur Championship, Davis Shore (Knoxville, Tenn.) led the six advancing IJGT members with a 71-72–143 overall score to finish in a tie for 18th place at the conclusion of the stroke play competition. He finished only six strokes off the leader, Sean Crocker (Zimbabwe), who finished at 7-under-par. Rounding out the IJGT field was John Pak (T24th), Keenan Huskey (T31), Bryson Nimmer (T37), Aaron Denucci (T50) and Austen Sandoval (T50).

In the U.S. Girls Junior Championship, Mariel Galdiano (Pearl City, Hawaii) took finalist honors in the stroke-play competition, finishing in third place! Her scores of 69-72–141 overall put her in sole possession of third place. Rounding out the IJGT membership in the field were Ana Paula Valdes (T17), Brynn Walker (T26), Samantha Wagner (T31), Julie Luo (T57) and Robynn Ree (T57).

Good luck to our advancing members, and the IJGT community looks forward to seeing your progress in the upcoming match-play competition!

2014 U.S. Junior Amateur and Girls' Junior Championships filled with IJGT talent

Junior Amateur

This year’s U.S. Junior Amateur, held at The Club at Carlton Woods in Woodlands, Texas, and U.S. Girls’ Junior, held at Forest Highlands Golf Club in Flagstaff, Ariz., kicked off this week. With over 200 junior golfers competing for their respective crowns, the fields contain 32 junior golfers with IJGT experience!

The U.S. Junior Amateur field contains 13 IJGT junior golfers from all over the country and includes five IJGT Champions, including Ryoto Furuya, the 2014 Bridgestone Golf Tournament of Champions Boys 15-19 Division Champion.

The U.S. Girls’ Junior field contains 19 IJGT junior golfers from all over the world, including Mexico, Norway, Brazil and Nigeria. Nine of the 19 IJGT golfers are past IJGT Champions, and even more are top-3 finalists in IJGT tournaments.

The U.S. Junior Amateur and Girls’ Junior Championships feature a two-round stroke play competition, which reduces the field down to 64 golfers. Those 64 golfers then compete in a single elimination, match-play tournament competition over the course of the remaining days to determine an overall champion.
