The IJGT’s Southeast Tour was proud to host its second Discovery Tour event of the year at the Palmetto Hall Robert Cupp Course on April 26, 2014. All Discovery Tour events provide an opportunity for juniors to play some of golf’s top venues, learn the rules of tournament play and meet other players of the same age in a fun and competitive atmosphere. The event was a nine-hole single round of golf that allowed for a parent or family member to caddy the juniors.
The Discovery Tour at Palmetto Hall featured a line up of four budding junior golfers eager to compete. With family and friends as spectators, the juniors took the course for a shortened nine-hole event.
In first place was Jonathan Griz of Bluffton, S.C., who went on a five hole par streak to finish the tournament with a score of 41.
Second place was secured by Hanru Guo of Bluffton, S.C., who finished the day with a score of 46 which included an impressive birdie on the par-5 second hole.
Rounding out the top three was Dazhuang Li of Sheyang, China. Li is a seasoned veteran of the Discovery Tour events and carded a score of 48.
Caleb Morante of Hilton Head Island, S.C., was our honorable mention finisher with a score of 78. Morante’s signature drive covered great distance for him in his second event of the season.
The players were accompanied by hand-selected caddies which could include a father, grandfather, coach or friend. The event was not only successful but was also fun for all those involved. We look forward to future Discovery Tour events and hope to see all our players again soon!
