BenShearGolf Junior Golf & Fitness Academy to sponsor MET Championship

BLUFFTON, S.C. – The BenShearGolf Junior Golf & Fitness Academy has agreed to become the tournament title sponsor for the International Junior Golf Tour’s (IJGT) event at Shackamaxon Country Club on Oct. 24-25, 2015. The Ben Shear Junior Golf Championship powered by BenShearGolf Junior Golf & Fitness Academy will feature a strong field of competitors from the Northeast. The tournament will also be a Major Championship for the 2015-2016 IJGT season giving double Merit Points to the top-10 finishers in each division.

Since its inception, the BenShearGolf Junior Golf & Fitness Academy has become one of the foremost golf development institutes for committed young athletes in the United States. Spearheaded by Ben Shear, the strength and fitness coach for several PGA Touring Professional golfers, this state-of-the-art program marries proven advancements in athletic science with the latest, cutting-edge golf technology to bring out the very best in young athletes aged 12 to 19 years old.

Based in Scotch Plains, N.J., the BenShearGolf Junior Golf & Fitness Academy offers off-season and pre-season programs for aspiring junior golfers from September to March. It is a great avenue for those junior golfers who are looking to take their game to the next level. Current and past participants in BenShearGolf Junior Golf & Fitness Academy include IJGT champions John Felitto, Kelly Sim, Allyson Wentworth, and Ami Gianchandani.

The IJGT is excited to partner with a strong and reputable organization like BenShearGolf Junior Golf & Fitness Academy and bring great training opportunities to our members and their families.

IJGT members set to compete in USGA Junior Championships

On Monday, July 20,2015, the U.S. Junior Amateur and U.S. Girls’ Junior will commence with many IJGT members from across the country competing in the nation’s premier junior golf event conducted by the United States Golf Association (USGA). The 68th U.S. Junior Amateur will be contested in the hometown of the IJGT, Bluffton, S.C., at Colleton River Plantation. Here are a list of IJGT members competing in the boys national championship.

Massimino comes from behind to secure Boys 15-19 Division title

Sim wins Girls Division against elite competition.

 The International Junior Golf Tour (IJGT) traveled to Lopatcong, N.J., to host the The Architects Cup on April 18-19, 2015. Juniors competed for IJGT Merit Points, national rankings, AJGA stars and North American Junior Amateur exemptions during the two-day, 36-hole event.

Massimino websiteRoland Massimino of Lumberville, Pa., carded an even-par 71 to win the Boys 15-19 Division. The Kansas State commit started out with three birdies through his first four holes. When asked about his play today, Massimino said,

“I played scrappy today,” Massimino said after his victory. “It was a grind-it-out kind of day today.”

When asked about going to play at Kansas State, he stated, “I’m really excited to be playing in the Big-12 against great competition.”

In a tie for second, Kyle Vance of Audubon, Pa., and Daniel Reiger of Collegeville, Md., both carded a two-day total of 3-over 145.

The Clazic Belts Low Final Round award went to James McHugh of Rye, N.Y., and Matt Graeff of Blue Bell, Pa. Both players shot a final round 70 to secure the award. The Eyeline Golf Golden Putter award went to Vance, who carded seven birdies during the competition.

Sim websiteIn the Girls Division, Kelly Sim of Edgewater, N.J., held on to her day one lead to win her second IJGT event in three weeks. Sim shot a first round 69, and followed up her 2-under first round with a gritty second round 73. During her final round, the New Jersey native shot an even-par 35 on the front nine.

In second place in the Girls Division, Brynn Walker of St. Davids, Pa., shot a two-day total of 144. The University of North Carolina commit managed to secure a Clazic Belts Low Final Round award in the Girls Division and the Eyeline Golf Golden Putter award for the girls. Third place went to Anina Ku of Basking Ridge, N.J. Ku shot a two-day total of 144 to secure third place, including a final round 71 to receive a Clazic Belts Low Final Round Award.

Updike websiteIn the Boys 14 & Under Division, John Updike of Wayne, Pa., came from behind during the final round to secure his first IJGT victory of the season. The Pennsylvania native started out strong, shooting an even-par 36 on his first nine holes. When asked about his strong start, he said, “I played really consistent. I had all pars to start out, which helped.”

There was a tie for second place in the Boys 14 & Under Division. With a two-day total of 151, Luke Sample of New York, N.Y., and Jake Calamaro of Newtown Square, Pa., both came within one shot of the victory.

The Eyeline Golf Golden Putter award for the Boys 14 & Under Division went to a par-4 tie breaker, and the award went to Calamaro, with four birdies.

The IJGT Northeast Tour returned to its bi-annual stop in Lopatcong, N.J., the Architects Golf Club, to host The Architects Cup. Juniors teed off beginning at noon for round one of the two-day, 36 hole event. In review, below are each division’s leader’s rounds in numbers.

Kyle Vance of Audubon, Pa., leads the Boys 15-19 Division. His round in numbers:

68- Vance shot a 3-under 68 in the first round

6- Vance carded a division-best six birdies

33- His 3-under score on the back nine

Luke Sample of New York, N.Y., leads the Boys 14 & Under Division. His round in numbers:

Ng cards seven birdies to win Boys 15-19 Division

Sim wins Girls Division by three strokes 

The International Junior Golf Tour (IJGT) Northeast Tour traveled to Forsgate Country Club to host the Metropolitan Junior at Forsgate on March 28-29, 2015. Competitors battled cold weather while competing for IJGT Merit Points, national rankings, AJGA stars and North American Junior Amateur exemptions during the two-day, 36-hole event.

Ethan NgNew York, N.Y., native Ethan Ng carded a division-best seven birdies to win the Boys 15-19 Division. He shot 3-over 74s in both rounds to finish with a tournament total of 148.

Ng shared the Clazic Belts Low Final Round Award, the award presented to the male and female junior to card the lowest score in the final round of the event, with West Nyack, N.Y., native and ninth-place finisher Chris Lee.

Sanghyeon Park of Oakland Gardens, N.Y., finished second with a 152 tournament total. Fair Haven, N.J., native Reid Bedell and West Chester, Pa., native Nicholas Gianelos finished one stroke behind Park with tournament totals of 153, good for a share of third place.

Kelly Sim AKelly Sim of Edgewater, N.J., maintained her round one lead to win the Girls Division by three strokes. She carded two birdies during the tournament on the par-4 sixth hole in round one and the par-5 eighth hole in round two. She closed out the back nine strong, making par on the last five holes.

Wilmington, Del., native Esther Park knocked five strokes off her round one score to finish in second with a 157 tournament total. Her second round 5-over 76 earned her the Clazic Belts Low Final Round award for the girls, which she shared with Sim. Park made par or better on holes No. 5 through 9 in both rounds. Jessie Kweon of Little Neck, N.Y., finished third with a tournament total of 162.

Luke Sample AIn the Boys 14 & Under Division, New York, N.Y., native Luke Sample built off his round one lead to win by two strokes. He made par on holes No. 4 through 6 in both rounds.

Wayne, Pa., native John Updike recorded a tournament total of 170 to finish in second. Jack Cornforth of South Hamilton, Mass., rounded out the division with a 173 tournament total.
