Kuhn, McKay included in list of IJGT Players of the Week – April 20, 2014

NORTHEAST TOUR

FARMINGTON, Pa. – The IJGT continued the Northeast Tour with the The College Prep Series at Nemacolin, contested on April 19-20, 2014. The weather for the tournament was ideal with sunny skies and temperatures in the 60s. The staff at Nemacolin worked diligently to ensure that the course was prepared for the tournament, which led to great scores both days. Andrew Reynolds of Pittsburgh, Pa., and Synclaire Kuhn of McMurray, Pa., have been selected for Players of the Week this week.

REYNOLDS Reynolds, playing in his first event of the season, played consistent golf throughout the weekend. He opened up the tournament with a score of 76 in the first round, including a birdie on the tough par-4 16th hole on the Links Course. Later that day, Reynolds shot an 83 on Mystic Rock. A resident of Pittsburg, Reynolds shot a 38 on the back nine, with a birdie on the long par-3 17th. Sunday was the best round of the weekend for Reynolds, shooting a tournament low 73. This round included three birdies on the 5th, 13th and 16th holes. Reynolds’ score of 73 earned him the Clazic Belts Low Final Round Award. We wish Reynolds the best of luck the rest of the season and hope to see him again soon.

KUHNKuhn, also playing in her first event of the season, had a strong showing at Nemacolin. After a slow start on Saturday at the Links course, shooting a 92, Kuhn improved her score by 12 shots during the second round at Mystic Rock posting a score of 80. The McMurray, Pa., native followed her first two rounds with another 80 in the final round. She shot a fantastic back nine, with two birdies on the 11th and 18th holes. Her final round score forced a playoff with the division lead. Although she fell short in the playoff, she still earned the Clazic Belts Low Final Round Award and Player of the Week honors this week. We wish her the best of luck the rest of the season and look forward to watching her again at future events.

SOUTHEAST TOUR

MARICOPA, Ariz. – The Southeast Tour of the IJGT headed out west for the second west coast event of the season. The Arizona Junior was hosted at first-time IJGT venue, the Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club on April 18-19, 2014. Despite a small field, the competition was fierce among the field of 15 juniors. This week’s IJGT Players of the Week from the Southeast Tour are Sam McKay of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Molly Balbierz of Hamburg, N.Y.

DSC_0590McKay, the Arizona Junior fourth-place finisher, displayed the utmost perseverance and mental strength when he bounced back from a round-one score of 82 to comeback and secure the Clazic Belts Low Final Round Award for his low score of even-par 72. The ten-stroke improvement moved him up from a tie for seventh place to fourth. After struggling in round one, McKay returned for round two with a determination that led to a round highlighted by four birdies and an eagle. The fourth-place performance becomes McKay’s fourth top-10 finish in his career with the IJGT. We wish McKay continued success!

DSC_0514Though Balbierz was the only competitor in the Girls Division at the Arizona Junior, her improvement between rounds awarded her the Player of the Week honors. In round one, Balbierz tallied a score of 85 but returned for round two ready to play. She kicked off round two with three consecutive pars before carding a birdie on the par-5 seventh hole. Consistent play allowed Balbierz to shave three strokes from her round-one score to finish the tournament with scores of 85-82–167. We look forward to seeing Balbierz again in future tournaments!
