Second round highlights from the Thanksgiving Day Classic at TPC Sawgrass

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. — The International Junior Golf Tour (IJGT) held the second round of the Thanksgiving Day Classic at TPC Sawgrass on Saturday, Nov. 30. With ruthless, brutal winds clocking in at more than 25 miles per hour all day, the players were more than challenged on the club’s par-72 Pete Dye Valley Course. Regardless, they showed lasting determination and concentration during their rounds. Here are your division leaders going into the tournament’s final round on Sunday, Dec. 1.

Ryoto Furuya of Wesley Chapel, Fla., who was a co-leader after the first round, now has sole possession of first place in the Boys 15-19 Division after shooting a tournament-low round of 75. Here is Furuya’s round by the numbers:

Ryoto Furuya:

37 – back nine score

12 – number of pars

6 – fewer bogeys than his first round performance

5 – stroke lead going into the final round

3 – number of birdies

-3 – score on the course’s four par-5s

The Boys 14 & Under Division has a new face atop the leaderboard in Karl Vilips of Melbourne, Australia. Vilips shot a second-round 89. Here is his round by the numbers:

Karl Vilips:

42 – score on the front nine

4 – number of pars

4 – wins on the IJGT this year (his first season)

2 – number of birdies

1 – stroke lead going into the final round

E – score on the course’s four par-3s

In the Girls Division, Cake Phuchanbanchob of Chiang Mai, Thailand, continues to hold onto the lead after a second-round 78 performance. Here is her round by the numbers:

3 – stroke lead going into the final round

2 – number of birdies

The final round of the Thanksgiving Day Classic at TPC Sawgrass will take place on THE PLAYERS Stadium Course on Sunday, Dec. 1.

First round highlights from the Thanksgiving Day Classic at TPC Sawgrass

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. — The International Junior Golf Tour (IJGT) held the first round of the Thanksgiving Day Classic at TPC Sawgrass on Friday, Nov. 29. Contested on the famous club’s Pete Dye Valley Course, the first round featured a field of nearly 100 junior golfers who took to the greens while battling unusually chilly weather and very forceful winds. Here are your division leaders going into the tournament’s second round on Saturday, Nov. 30.

In a tie for first place in the Boys 15-19 Division are Keshav Sharma of New Delhi, India, and Ryoto Furuya of Wesley Chapel, Fla., who both shot a 4-over-par 76. Here are their rounds by the numbers:

Keshav Sharma:

38- front and back nine scores (2-over-par)

8 – number of pars (44.4% of his scores)

3 – number of birdies

1 – stroke lead going into the second round. This is also Sharma’s first season with the IJGT

E – score on the course’s four par-5s

Ryoto Furuya:

36 – score on the front nine (even-par)

8 – number of pars (44.4% of his scores)

4 – this is Furuya’s fourth season with the IJGT

3 – number of birdies

E – score on the course’s par-3s and par-5s

In the Boys 14 & Under Division, Brian Aslanian of Purchase, N.Y., leads the way with a first-round 10-over-par 82. Here is his round by the numbers:

3 – this is Aslanian’s third season on the IJGT
