Braunstein, Morris chosen for Photo of the Week – April 24, 2014

NORTHEAST

The Northeast Tour of the IJGT traveled to Nemacolin Woodlands Resort to host the College Prep Series on April 19-20th, 2014. The College Prep Series tournaments are 54-hole contests designed to prepare juniors for future college tournaments. The field of 43 competitors played on the Links and Mystic Rock Courses at Nemacolin hoping to earn IJGT Merit Points and national rankings. This week’s IJGT Photo of the Week from the Northeast Tour features Benjamin Morris of Reistertown, Md.

BENMORRISIn just his second IJGT event this season, Morris earned first place in event at Nemacolin. During the final round, he totaled four birdies, three of which came in the final five holes. Morris won his respective division by a difference of two strokes. His numbers for the weekend were 76-77-74–227. We congratulate Morris on his victory at Nemacolin and for being selected Photo of the Week this week. We hope to see more of him this season at upcoming IJGT events.

SOUTHEAST

The Southeast IJGT team headed west to host the Arizona Junior at Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club on April 18-19, 2014. The two-day 36-hole event featured a field of 15 juniors ranging in age from 13-17 years old. The warm Arizona sun provided warm temperatures for this two-day event. This week’s IJGT Photo of the Week in the southeast features Michael Braunstein, of Roslyn Heights, N.Y.

Braunstein posted scores of 77-80–157 to finish in seventh place in the Arizona Junior. Braunstein totaled 20 pars throughout 36 holes and added a birdie to his round on each day. This is his fourth season playing in IJGT events and we look forward to seeing more of him this year!

Maresca, Russell featured in IJGT Photo of the Week – April 13, 2014

NORTHEAST

The Northeast Tour of the IJGT traveled to Architects Golf Club to host The Architects Cup on April 12-13, 2014. Temperatures were in the 60s for both rounds. The field of 90 competitors battled for the title of champion of The Architects Cup. This week’s IJGT Photo of the Week from the Northeast Tour features Jack Maresca of Rye, N.Y.

Maresca started off his performance at The Architect’s Cup with a bold statement as he birdied his first hole. He went on to make par or better on 19 of 36 holes for the tournament to finish with an overall tournament score of 163. Maresca has played on the IJGT for three years now and has competed in nine total events. We hope to see more of Maresca at future events and continue to wish him the best of luck!

SOUTHEAST

The Southeast Tour of the IJGT visited Oldfield Golf Club to host the Oldfield Junior presented by Auntie Anne’s on April 12-13, 2014. The sponsored event drew more than 75 juniors who competed for a victory as well as IJGT Merit Points and national rankings. The sunshine and temperatures in the 70s greeted the golfers for two picturesque days of golf. This week’s IJGT Photo of the Week in the southeast features Nicholas Russell of Hilton Head Island, S.C.

Russell gave the “hats off” to fans as he prepared to tee off on his first hole of the Oldfield Junior presented by Auntie Anne’s. Russell went on to record a tournament score of 77-78 — 155 overall to tie for 17th place. His performance was highlighted by two birdies and par on 21 of 36 holes. The tie for 17th becomes Russell’s 12th top-20 finish of the 2013-2014 season. We look forward to seeing Russell again this season and wish him the best of luck.

Egloff receives IJGT Photo of the Week Honors – March 20, 2014

With cooperation from the winter weather, the IJGT hosted the Capitol Challenge at Westfields Golf Club on March 15-16, 2014 in Clifton, Va. Day one of the tournament presented spring-like temperatures in the upper 60s with abundant sunshine before the temperatures slipped back in to the 40s on day two. Despite the varying conditions, the juniors performed well both days to finish strong. This week’s Photo of the Week honors goes to third-place finisher, Walter Egloff of Chevy Chase, Md.

Though he struggled through a streak of bogeys in the first round on the front nine, Egloff’s play on the back nine was highlighted by back-to-back birdies on the fourteenth and fifteenth holes to drive a strong finish. Round two also featured a birdie in addition to making par on 12 of 18 holes. The third-place finish is the third of five events played in which Egloff has placed in the top five. The IJGT looks forward to seeing Egloff in future tournament events!

Girls Division winners circle featured in the IJGT Photo of the Week – February 22-23, 2014

The IJGT headed south to host the Georgia Junior at The Club at Savannah Harbor in Savannah, Ga. on Feb. 22-23, 2014. Played out in temperatures in the 60s and 70s, the tournament featured 89 talented juniors representing 18 countries. Competition was fierce leading to various changes in the leaderboard between the two rounds.

This week’s Photo of the Week features the Girls Division winners circle, Kayla Kozak of Bluffton, S.C., Ana Paula Valdes of Morelia, Mexico, and Thamonpat Siriko of Bangkok, Thailand.

Leading the Girls Division and securing her second consecutive IJGT victory was Valdes, carding an impressive 70-71–141 overall. Valdes attributed her dominance to her putting, stating, “I wasn’t hitting the ball very well but it is always good to putt well. It helps you a lot.”

In second was Kozak who continues her streak of top-three finishes with a score of 81-71–151 overall. Kozak’s comeback performance consisted of 5 birdies in round two to improve her round one score by a staggering 11 strokes.

Rounding out the top three was Siriko with a score of 78-74–152 overall. Siriko remains a presence in IJGT tournament play as she has finished in the top-five for six consecutive Events, including her most recent fourth place finish in the Major Championship at Kiawah Island on Feb. 15-16, 2014.

Jain makes a statement with lime green putter in IJGT Photo of the Week – February 15-16, 2014

The IJGT traveled to Kiawah Island Resort in Kiawah Island, S.C. February 15-16, 2014 to host the Major Championship. Round one was held on the Jack Nicklaus designed Turtle Point Golf Club. The final round was held on the famed Ocean Course, which has hosted events such as the 1991 Ryder Cup and 2012 PGA Championship. Strong winds during the first day created a challenging round for the competitors, while day two was ideal for the elite competitive field.

This week’s Photo of the Week features Ritwik Jain of New Delhi, India, the sixth place finisher in the Boys 15-19 Division.

Jain is the reigning winner of last week’s Photo of the Week and had a strong showing of supporters again this week with 14 likes and two comments on his photo on IJGT’s Facebook page.

Jain came into the Major Championship at Kiawah after a three-way tie for ninth place at IJGT’s Island Open at Dolphin Head on February 8-9, 2014. He played a strong and consistent tournament scoring 81 in both rounds, tying for sixth on the weekend in his division. Jain hopes to continue his pattern of placing in the top 10 in the Georgia Junior at Savannah Harbor February 22-23, 2014.

Coming in a close second for Photo of the Week was Lee Hammerschmidt who also had a solid 13 likes on his photo from this weekend.

Jain’s short game highlighted in IJGT Photo of the Week – February 8-9, 2014

The IJGT hosted a competitive field of 43 juniors for the Island Open at Dolphin Head Golf Club on February 8-9, 2014. Battling for both IJGT Merit Points and national rankings, the juniors were faced with sporadic rain showers in round one and heavy fog in round two.

This week’s Photo of the Week features Ritwik Jain of New Delhi, India, a ninth-place finisher in the Boys 15-19 Division.

Jain’s tie for ninth place became his fourth consecutive top-10 finish in IJGT Events. His performance at Dolphin Head boasted a birdie in round one and 22 pars in 36 holes. The highlight of Jain’s tournament came in the back nine of round one where he made par on eight of nine holes to finish the day. We look forward to seeing Jain again at the Major Championship at Kiawah Island Golf Resort on February 15-16, 2014.

IJGT Photo of the Week featuring Samantha Gong – February 1-2, 2014

The IJGT hosted its first west coast Event of the year in San Francisco, Calif., at Presidio Golf Course. The Major Championship featured a field of 38 players across three divisions. With both rain and shine during the two-day Event, juniors displayed impressive talent and resiliency as they competed for both IJGT Merit Points and national rankings.

In just her third ever IJGT Event, the west coast native battled back in windy and wet conditions post a second-round score of 76 – an impressive nine strokes better than her first round score of 85. The second-round score led her to nab the Clazic Belt Low Final Round Award for the girls and land within three strokes of first place. Her second-place finish was highlighted with a staggering seven birdies, three of which came consecutively in round two.

IJGT Photo of the Week – January 25-26, 2014

The IJGT hosted the Carolina Classic at Colleton River Plantation Club in Bluffton, S.C. on January 25-26, 2014. Junior golfers ranging in age from 12-19 years old and representing 16 different countries participated in this event. Temperatures were in the 40’s and 50’s with gusts of wind ranging from 15-25 miles per hour.

Pidduck’s best finish of 2014 was at the Island Challenge at Country Club of Hilton Head where he finished in 15th place. We look forward to seeing him compete in more events this season including the Georgia Junior at Savannah Harbor on February 22-23rd,2014 and also at The College Classic at Duke University on April 5-6th, 2014. IJGT Photo of the Week – January 18-19, 2014

The IJGT hosted the Island Challenge at the Country Club of Hilton Head in Hilton Head Island, S.C. on January 18-19, 2014. The field featured new faces but it was tenured player Nicholas Russell of Hilton Head Island, S.C., of the Boys 15-19 Division finishing first. Having played in numerous countries of the world, Russell has been exposed to varying weather conditions which gave him an advantage in the cold and windy weather during the tournament.

The first-place win at the Island Challenge, his first tournament of the 2014 year, was a notable improvement from his final tournament of 2013 where he tied for 9th at the IJGA Invitational. Russell looks to continue to advance his performance as he heads to the Carolina Classic at Colleton River Plantation, the site of the 2015 US Junior Amateur, on January 25-26, 2014.

IJGT Photo of the Week – January 11-12, 2014

The IJGT headed to Tampa Bay for the #WinterShootout last weekend at TPC Tampa Bay. The conditions and the competition both were tough – the Boys 15-19 Division ending in a playoff for first and second place. Despite the conditions, players remained mentally tough to finish both rounds with the best intensity and precision possible.

After finishing 19th in his final tournament of the 2013 year, Berdy wasted no time making his mark on 2014 tournament play. Berdy’s sixth place finish at Tampa Bay became his best finish to date after shooting 86 and 90 to combine for a total score of 176. Next on the schedule for Berdy will be the Carolina Classic on Jan 25-26 at Colleton River, the site of the 2015 U.S. Junior Amateur.
