IJGT Photo of the Week – December 21-22

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. — The International Junior Golf Tour (IJGT) conducted the IJGT Junior at TPC Louisiana in Avondale, La., on Dec. 21-22, 2013. This was the first tournament the IJGT has ever hosted in the state of Louisiana, and it could not have occurred at a better venue. TPC Louisiana has hosted the PGA Tour’s Zurich Classic for eight years and is one of the best tests of golf the state has to offer. This week’s Photo of the Week went to Alexander Thaller of Hilton Head Island, S.C.

Thaller Putt2

Thaller finished in second place in the Boys 14 & Under Division with a total score of 130 including a 40 in the final round which was the second best score of the day regardless of division. Conditions were very challenging and being able to bounce back like Thaller did is what all great competitors do. His final round included five pars and no scores worse than bogey in the rainy conditions. This is Thaller’s best finish in an IJGT tournament after he finished in seventh place back over Labor Day Weekend in the Lowcountry Open at Oldfield Golf Club. We look forward to seeing Thaller in more IJGT tournaments in the future.

Tournament of Champions

This past weekend, the International Junior Golf Tour (IJGT) hosted its annual Bridgestone Golf Tournament of Champions at Grand Cypress Golf Club in Orlando, Fla. Nestled in the heart of one of America’s top vacation destinations, Grand Cypress Resort offers four stunning courses that present challenges to players of all levels.  The IJGT Bridgestone Golf Tournament of Champions was played on the East/North Course as well as the Jack Nicklaus designed New Course. Francisco Hernandez of North Myrtle Beach, S.C., pictured here playing the East/North Course on the first day of competition, finished the competition tied for 19th place. Hernandez carded a 3-over-par 75 on the East/North Course on the first day of competition and a 76 after the second day of competition on the New Course. Hernandez’s performance included seven birdies, four of which he carded in the first round. This was just Hernandez’s second IJGT event after taking seventh place at the Major Championship at Nemacolin. Congratulations on a terrific showing at the IJGT Bridgestone Golf Tournament of Champions, and the IJGT looks forward to seeing Hernandez at future tournaments.

Cole Shintaku

This week’s Photo of the Week features Cole Shintaku, a native of Honolulu, Hawaii. Shintaku, pictured here teeing off on the first hole, tied for second place in last weekend’s PURE Grips Shootout at Troon North. Shintaku kept his shots straight and consistent on Sunday as evidenced by his birdie on the par-5 11th hole. Troon North is a beautiful course carved out of the desert of Scottsdale, Ariz., that forces golfers to make aggressive plays that can quickly ruin a day’s score. Shintaku managed to reign in the desert and finish the weekend with both a second-place finish as well as Photo of the Week honors. The International Junior Golf Tour was excited to have Shintaku travel from the islands of Hawaii and looks forward to seeing him in the future.

Aaron Elmore

It has been quite a week for Aaron Elmore of Rincon, Ga., who is pictured above with his second-place trophy in the Orlando Junior at Falcons Fire Golf Club. Things started well on Sunday with a strong finish in the tournament. Next, Elmore earned Player of the Week honors, and today he is the featured Photo of the Week. Every accolade is well deserved, as Elmore played his first tournament event outside the IJGT Discovery Tour. Elmore managed to keep up with older and more experienced competitors and string together some great shots over the weekend. Finishing in second place is one thing, but to be the youngest player in the field and maintain composure all weekend is a big accomplishment. Congratulations to Elmore, and the IJGT cannot wait to see how his game develops.

C.J. Hughes

The IJGT Major Championship at Hershey last weekend was a great opportunity for golfers to showcase their talents, compete against one another, and hopefully learn from the experience of himself. C.J. Hughes of Indiana, Pa., pictured here, did not let the opportunity pass him by, and finished second in the Major Championship. Besides Hughes’s impressive second-place finish over the weekend, he has also finished in the top 10 for five of his last six events played on the IJGT this season. His scorecard for the IJGT Major Championship at Hershey included back-to-back birdies that helped keep him afloat during the final round. Congratulations on what has become a fantastic season on the IJGT, and for earning this week’s Photo of the Week honors.
