Riva wins in playoff, Lees plays consistent to win the Girls Division.

Hershey, P.A.– The International Junior Golf Tour stayed up in the Northeast this past weekend for the Northeast Tour Championship at Hershey CC. This tournament had over 91 players in the field. The participants competed for AJGA Stars, National Rankings and IJGT Merit Points. The top five players in each division earned preferred entry into any IJGT Major Championship and the Champions of each division earned an invitation to the 2016 IJGT Tournament of Champions.

In the Girls Division, Kaitlyn Lees kept the first place lead. Lees, of Bryn Mawr, P.A., played very consistent this weekend shooting 81, 81, for a total of 162. Right behind Lees was Samantha Fritzinger. Fritzinger, of Allentown, P.A., also had a consistent weekend shooting 82,82 for a total of 164. Rounding out the Girls Division was Katie James, shooting a total of 166.

“I didn’t have my best game this weekend, I just tried to keep it together. The course here at Hershey is wonderful. A lot of my success came from my favorite club; my driver. I can always depend on it,” commented Lees.

In the Boys 14 and Under Division there were 11 players that competed. Taking the championship was Garrett Engle. Engle, from Harrisburg, P.A., had three birdies this weekend and came from behind to take the title. Engle shot a total of 159. Alex Gu and Brice Delaney tied in the Boys 14 and Under Division carding a total of 162.

“I played ok. I played much better on the back and had some clutch putts. The conditions were very tough. They had undulating greens and the wind was hard to play in,” said Engle.

In the Boys 15-19 Division, Richard Riva III finally prevailed after winning the playoff. Riva, of Lancaster, P.A., shot a total of 154, was tied for first after round one, and had to go up against Ben Pochet to claim the title. Ben Pochet, of Royersford, P.A., also shot a total of 154 but lost in the one-hole playoff when Riva made a par on the 10th hole. Wills Montgomery and Thomas McAuliffe tied for third place each shooting a total of 155.

“Conditions were tough this weekend. The winds were swirling which made it difficult. I had a new putter in the bag this week and it made a huge difference. It was my best club and I made a lot of putts,” remarked Riva. *Richard just committed to St. Joes in Philly

The Architects Cup – Final Results

Gotterup claims Boys 15-19 Division at Architects

Updike shoots 5-under-par to win title

LOPATCONG, N.J. – The International Junior Golf Tour (IJGT) continued the 2015 Fall Season with The Architects Cup at Architects Golf Club on Sept. 26-27, 2015. Junior golfers ages 10-19 years old representing 6 different states competed in the 36-hole tournament for IJGT Merit Points, National Rankings, and AJGA Performance Stars.

Chris Gotterup of Little Silver, N.J., earned the title in the Boys 15-19 Division after firing a 3-under, 139 tournament total. The wind at Architects Golf Club was a major factor. During both rounds the wind was consistently blowing around 10 miles per hour or greater. It was also a swirling wind making club selection extremely difficult. Gotterup was able to manage the conditions and used his length to his advantage.

Gotterup started the tournament with a round of even-par, 71 which gave him a two-stroke lead. During the first round, he made three birdies. In the final round, Gotterup turned it up a notch making six birdies in route to a 3-under, 68. This stellar performance gave him a three-stroke victory, his first on the IJGT.

“My mentality coming in to the final round was to gain the shots back that I left out there yesterday,” said Gotterup.

Alec Kerr of Broomall, Pa., finished in second place posting a tournament total of even-par 142. Kerr fired a 3-under, 68 in the final round, which tied for the low round of the tournament. In third place was Richard Riva III of Lancaster, Pa., who finished with a tournament total of 145.

The performance of the tournament came in the Boys 14 & Under Division where John Updike of Wayne, Pa., blew away the competition shooting a 5-under, 137 to win by 14 strokes. In the first round, Updike carded the lowest round of the day shooting a 2-under, 69. The final round was even better for Updike who recorded a 3-under, 68 to earn his third IJGT victory.

Updike did his damage on the front nine at Architects Golf Club. In the first round, he carded a 33 and in the final round a 32. In total, Updike made eight birdies and one eagle for the tournament.

Updike’s final-round score of 3-under, 68 earned him the Clazic Belts Low Final Round Award. Gotterup and Kerr also received the award for their identical score of 68.

“My mentality coming into the final round with the lead was to not play conservative and shoot better than I did on the first day,” commented Updike.

Garrett Engle of Harrisburg, Pa., finished in second place in the Boys 14 & Under Division with a total score of 151. Luke Sample of New York, N.Y., took home third place finishing with a score of 152.

In the Girls Division, Anna Bowman of Westfield, N.J., earned her first IJGT title after recording a tournament total of 168. Bowman recorded a final-round score of 81, which was a six-stroke improvement from the previous day. The highlight of the tournament for Bowman was her front-nine score of 38 during the final round.

The IJGT will travel to Lake Buena Vista, Fla., for the Florida Junior at Disney Resort on Oct. 3-4, 2015. The tournament will feature national rankings, AJGA Performance Stars as well as IJGT Merit Points. To sign up for this event, or others, visit IJGT.com or call (844) 779-3374.

Summer Series at Hartefeld National – Final Results

Bradbeer wins IJGT title with final-round 71

Perine wins Girls Division in dominant fashion

AVONDALE, Pa. – The International Junior Golf Tour (IJGT) continued its summer tournament schedule in Avondale, Pa., on July 28-29, 2015, with the Summer Series at Hartefeld National. Weather conditions were ideal for scoring on the challenging Tom Fazio design. Junior golfers ages 10-18 years old and representing 6 different states competed for IJGT Merit Points along with National Rankings.

J.B. Bradbeer of Rosemont, Pa., ended his IJGT career in style collecting a come-from-behind victory in the Boys 15-19 Division. On the first day, Bradbeer got off to a slow start shooting 40 on his front nine. He was able to turn things around for good making nine straight pars to finish with a 4-over 76 leaving him in a tie for second place going into the final round.

Things started off just how they finished the day before with Bradbeer playing his first six holes in 2-under. He would make the turn at even-par 36 to take the lead. Bradbeer had to keep his foot on the pedal though, as first-round leader Richard Riva III of Lancaster, Pa., caught fire on the back nine shooting a 2-under 34. Bradbeer was able to hold off Riva, due in part to an eagle that Bradbeer made on hole No. 13. This was the decisive moment of the tournament that gave Bradbeer the momentum to finish with a 1-under 71, and earn a one-stroke victory over Riva.

“I hit driver, 2-iron and made the 30 foot putt for eagle. It was at that point where I knew I had a chance to win,” said Bradbeer

Bradbeer’s round of 71 was the lowest score of the tournament and also earned him the Clazic Belts Low Final Round Award, which goes to the boy and girl who records the lowest final-round score in every IJGT tournament.

Riva earned second place with a tournament total of 148, while Cole Berger of Malvern, Pa., placed third with a total score of 150.

In the Girls Division, Sarah Perine of Staten Island, N.Y., put together two solid rounds on a difficult golf course to earn the title. She finished the event with a tournament total of 159 to collect her first IJGT title. Perine made 12 pars in her opening round of 79. She added 10 more pars during the final round and avoided any large numbers that would have put her lead in jeopardy. Perine was very consistent over the course of the tournament making nothing worse than a double bogey. She also made eight pars in a row at one point during the tournament.

“I loved the course. You had to hit it straight to play well here,” commented Perine.

Perine’s final-round score of 80 earned her the Clazic Belts Low Final Round Award.

Kelli Anderson of Staten Island, N.Y., finished in second place with a tournament total of 189. Georgia Naples of West Chester, Pa., took home the third place trophy after finishing with a total score of 192.

Andrew Wallace of Narberth, Pa., won the Boys 14 & Under Division with a tournament total of 157. Wallace played solid golf all tournament making five birdies in total. He built himself a good lead after the first round, but Wallace knew he would need his A-game in the final round to win the tournament. He definitely had it as he got off to a blazing start making two birdies in his front nine to make the turn at 1-over 37. From there Wallace never looked back and was able to finish with a 77 to earn the title.

“I made a bunch of double bogeys yesterday and I wanted to come out today and eliminate those holes,” said Wallace.

Andrew Curran of Media, Pa., finished in second place with a tournament total of 161 including a 2-over 74 in the final round, which was the lowest score in all of the Boys 14 & Under Division during the event. Matt Barkann of Newtown Square, Pa., finished in third place with a tournament total of 166.

The IJGT will continue the Summer Series on August 18-19, 2015, at Westfields Golf Club in Clifton, Va. The tournament will feature national rankings as well as IJGT Merit Points. To sign up for this event, or others, visit IJGT.com or call (844) 779-3374.
