IJGT ELITE News

April 8-21, 2015

Big Break 2The IJGT ELITE has been performing well at all levels over the past two weeks. First of all, the IJGT would like to congratulate Richy Werenski and Justin Martinson making it to the final round of Golf Channel’s Big Break The Palm Beaches, FL. In the end, Werenski took home the crown (and an exemption to the 2015 Barbasol Championship!), but it was a win-win for us as both competitors are IJGT alums!

Also at the professional level, five IJGT alums–Zac Blair, Matt Every, Morgan Hoffmann, Webb Simpson and Daniel Summerhays–made the cut in the PGA Tour’s RBC Heritage last week! Hoffmann had the best finish of the group, tying for ninth. It was especially exciting to see the IJGT ELITE perform so well in the Heritage because many current IJGT members acted as standard bearers during the tournament.

IJGT ELITE members racked up a variety of awards at the collegiate level. Freshman Matt Barto was named the Gannon University Men’s Student-Athlete of the Month for the second time this season. Mercer University senior Trey Rule finished fourth overall at the Southern Conference Championship and earned All-Conference honors. Auburn freshman Ben Schlottman‘s 8-under runner-up finish at the SEC Championship was the best in Tigers history for a freshman. Schlottman’s team-low 69.66 stroke average is ranked fourth in the SEC. He had four top-five finishes in six tournaments this season. USF sophomore Rigel Fernandes was named the American Men’s Golf Player of the Week after earning his first individual championship of the year at the Irish Creek Collegiate in Kannapolis, N.C.

And finally, at the high school level, Phillipsburg High School junior Allyson Wentworth won her second consecutive Hunterdon/Warren/Sussex Girls Golf Tournament. She won with a par on the first sudden-death playoff hole. Wentworth has accepted a full golf scholarship offer from the University of Akron.

IJGT ELITE
CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP EDITION

It’s that time of year! Conference championships were in full swing the last few weeks, and they displayed just how successful the IJGT ELITE is in NCAA competition. With 63 players finishing in the top-10 of a multitude of conference championships, the end of the season is really beginning to showcase just how well our alumni compete at the next level of competition.

In addition to the vast amount of top-10 finishes, seven conference championships were won by our alumni, with wins coming in the following conferences: the SEC Women’s, SoCon Men’s, Atlantic Sun Men’s, Ohio Valley Men’s, Patriot League Men’s, Big West Men’s, and the Mid-American Women’s!

Congrats to all of our alumni, and with the NCAA Championships coming up soon, the IJGT ELITE positioned themselves well to continue their season-long success!
