Rochester Open at Ravenwood – Final Results

VICTOR, N.Y. – The International Junior Golf Tour (IJGT) made its eighth stop on the Northeast Tour to host the Rochester Open at Ravenwood Golf Club on May 3-4, 2014. Gusts of wind 40 mph made this already difficult golf course even more challenging. Juniors came out to compete for IJGT Merit Points and national rankings, as well as an invite to the IJGT’s Bridgestone Golf Tournament of Champoins to be played at Grand Cypress Resort on May 24-26, 2014.

ChambersIn the Boys 15-19 Division, Scott Chambers of Pittsford, N.Y., finished in first place with scores of 74-78—152. After making four birdies in his first round, Chambers headed into the final round tied for the division lead. Despite the windy conditions, Chambers managed to play consistently in the final round by making three birdies. He added six pars to finish in first place, winning the division by one stroke. This was Chambers’ second IJGT event this  season and his first IJGT Championship.

Peyton Steigerwald of Penfield, N.Y., finished in second place with scores of 80-73—153. Steigerwald’s score of 73 during the final round earned him the Clazic Belts Low Final Round Award. This award goes to the player that shoots the lowest score during the final round of the tournament. Danny Lapp of Trumansburg, N.Y., took third place posting scores of 76-78—154.

When asked about the weather conditions and how they affected his play, Chambers replied, “It was real tough to say the least… putting was definitely the toughest with the wind. It definitely played a big part.”

ParkerIn the Girls Division, Victoria Parker of Lewistown, N.Y., came from behind to take her second IJGT Championship this season. Parker trailed the division leader by four strokes as she headed into the final round. Determined to come back, Parker improved her score by two strokes and managed to come away victorious. She made two birdies on her final nine holes to win her division by one stroke. Parker’s final round score of 81 earned her the Clazic Belts Low Final Round Award. Her numbers for the weekend were 83-81—164.

When asked about how she came from behind to pull out the victory, Parker stated, “I was just thinking
less putts, no 3-putts, and [try to] par it up and see how I do.”

Finishing in second place was Allyson Wentworth of Stewartsville, N.J., who posted scores of 79-86—
165. In third place was Maren Cipolla of Lewiston, N.Y., who finished with scores of 83-87—170.

LEOIn the Boys 14 & Under Division, Leo Hernandez of Stewartsville, N.J., won his division posting scores of 75-84—159. Hernandez played very well during the first round by making nine pars and adding three birdies. His score of 75 set him up with a two-stroke lead in the division going into the final round. After a slow start, Hernandez responded with two birdies, one of which was a chip-in on the par-4 hole number 15. With his victory at the Rochester Open, Hernandez earned his second IJGT Championship and is currently ranked third in the IJGT Tour Rankings.

When asked what worked well for him, Hernandez commented, “My mentality. My mindset. I was just trying to stay positive after my first nine holes. It was a rough first nine, but I just tried to stay positive and play well my next nine and see if I could get back in it.”

Dylan Plis of Camillus, N.Y., and Craig Eichas of Hilton, N.Y., finished tied for second place in the division. Plis posted scores of 77-83—160 while Eichas’ weekend numbers were 78-82—160.
