The Architects Cup – Tour Preview

The IJGT Northeast Tour will pay homage to the beginnings of golf while hosting The Architects Cup at The Architects Golf Club in Lopatcong, N.J., on April 18-19, 2015.

The unique style of the 6,863 yard par-71 course at The Architects Golf Club reflects back on the history of golf and will offer IJGT members the chance to play 18 different course styles in one location. It boasts a 131 slope, 72.5 rating and the facility includes a practice putting green and driving range.

Architects Club

Each hole aims to emulate a different golf architect’s style without simply copying one of their famous holes. The result is more creative than simple reproduction and offers a fun style that both challenges and excites golfers.

This course is recognized as one of the most challenging and historically significant courses in the Northeast. During the two-day, 36-hole event, juniors will compete for IJGT Merit Points and national rankings. Competitors in the Boys 15-19 Division and Girls Division will also be competing for AJGA performance stars and North American Junior Amateur exemptions.

Allyson Wentworth of Stewartsville, N.J., tops the list of players to watch in the Girls Division as she’ll be playing her home course. She won The Architects Cup Presented by the IJGA in October and tied for second in last April’s Architects Cup. This is her fourth consecutive season competing in an IJGT event at Architects Golf Club. Other players to watch in the Girls Division include Ami Gianchandani of Short Hills, N.J., and Lauren Muhlbauer of Newtown, Pa. Gianchandani has one first-place finish and two second-place finishes this season. Muhlbauer has one second-place finish this season.

Also keep an eye on 12-year-olds Tiya Chowdary of Montgomery, N.J., and Yoona Kim of Oradell, N.J. They may be young, but they can play. The pair tied for fifth in the Metropolitan Junior at Forsgate Country Club at the end of March and will look to outdo one another in the Architects Cup.

Brian Isztwan of Huntingdon Valley, Pa., will try to earn his first title in the Boys 15-19 Division; he won the Boys 14 & Under Division of the Labor Day Classic at Hershey Country Club in August. Isztwan will be facing a tough field in the Boys 15-19 Division. Other players to watch include Kyle Vance of Audubon, Pa., who won the Major Championship at Duke University at the end of March and Sanghyeon Park of Oakland Gardens, N.Y., who finished second in the Metropolitan Junior at Forsgate Country Club, also at the end of March. West Chester, Pa., native Nicholas Gianelos finished a single stroke behind Park to tie for third in the Metropolitan Junior, and will look to defeat him in the Architects Cup.

TJ Buck of Penfield, N.Y., won the Boys 14 & Under Division of the Architects Cup Presented by the IJGA in October and will look to add a second Architects title to his resume. Also in the Boys 14 & Under Division, Wayne, Pa., native John Updike and James Meyers of Wexford, Pa., have one second-place finish apiece this season and will aim to earn their first title of the season.
