The IJGT spring season was filled with exciting highlights from low scores to playoffs to holes-in-one, all with beautiful, world-class courses as the backdrop.
Over Valentine’s Day weekend, February 14-15, 2015, the IJGT hosted the South Carolina Open at Kiawah Island, a fan-favorite venue. Juniors had the opportunity to play both Turtle Point and the Ocean Course during the two-day, 36-hole event. Jason Stokes of Channel Islands, Jersey, won the Boys 15-19 Division, Ami Gianchandani of Short Hills, N.J., won the Girls Division and Thomas Pfoestl of Schenna, Italy, won the Boys 14 & Under Division. The winners’ bragging rights are extra-special as the PGA of America recently announced that Kiawah Island’s Ocean Course will host the PGA Championship in 2021. The Ocean Course has more seaside holes than any other course in North America; 10 holes sit along the Atlantic Ocean while the other eight run parallel.
Another fan favorite was the IJGA Junior Open at Hershey Country Club on May 9-10, 2015. Over 100 juniors competed on Hershey’s East Course during the two-day, 36-hole event. Michael Jones of Potomac, Md., Charlotte Simpson of Towson, Md., and John Updike of Wayne, Pa., won the Boys 15-19, Girls and Boys 14 & Under Divisions, respectively. Tom McLaughlin of West Des Moines, Iowa, and Matthew Dzialga of Greewich, Conn., both carded aces during the tournament! McLaughlin’s came on the par-3 16th hole in round one and Dzialga’s came on the par-3 second hole in round two.
Parker Gillam of Cary, N.C., carded his first double eagle on the par-5 ninth hole on the East Course at Grand Cypress Golf Club during the Bridgestone Golf Tournament of Champions. Gillam finished fourth in the Boys 15-19 Division.
The IJGT also hosted two west coast events during the spring season, the Major Championship at Presidio Golf Course in San Francisco on February 7-8, 2015, and the Arizona Open at Wigwam Golf Club in Litchfield Park, Ariz., on April 3-4, 2015.

The summer series will begin with the Summer Series at Olde Stonewall Golf Club on June 30-July 1, 2015. The following week, the IJGT will travel to Toronto, Ontario, to host the always-exciting North America Cup. Hosted by The Weston Golf and Country Club, the North America Cup features four-ball and singles matches against Team Canada. After a few more stops in the Northeast, the IJGT will travel to Scotland to host the Euro Junior Cup in St. Andrews. Team USA will compete in a triangular match-play event against Team Canada and Team Scotland.
Thanks for a wonderful spring season and we look forward to a fun summer season!
