Plis wins second consecutive Summer Series event

The IJGT continued the Summer Series as it hosted the Summer Series at Oyster Reef Golf Club on July 11, 2014. The two-day, 36-hole event was cut short due to severe thunderstorms and heavy rains. Winners were announced on July 12, 2014, and based on round one scores. Twenty juniors competed for national rankings and eight juniors competed in a 9-hole Discovery Tour competition.

DSC_0714IJGT newcomer Justin Lewis of High Point, N.C., was victorious in the Boys 15-19 Division. Finishing with a score of 1-over-par 73, Lewis took first with a two-stroke lead. His score was the lowest score among the male competitors, earning him the Clazic Belts Low Round Award, the award provided to the boy and girl with the lowest score for the round. Lewis carded par or better on 11 straight holes, two of which were birdies, en route to his victory.

In a tie for second, Kyle Vance of Audubon, Pa., and Hsin-Wei Wu of Taiwan, both carded 3-over-par scores of 75 to complete the winner’s circle. The second-place finish was the first top-three finish for Vance and the first-ever IJGT event for Wu.

“I feels good to win, the course was great,” Lewis said in reference to his first experience with the IJGT.

Connors, Chambers nab Player of the Week honors – July 4, 2014

The IJGT hosted the second tournament of the Summer Series at Ridgemont Country Club of Greece, N.Y.  The two-day tournament took place on July 1-2, 2014.  Players and spectators enjoyed great weather and a pristine course operated by an accommodating and friendly staff.

Great competition made for a truly special tournament. Despite challenges presented by quick and undulating greens, juniors posted many low scores.  Special congratulations are in order for Emily Connors and Scott Chambers for receiving the IJGT Player of the Week honors.

10444360_10154368309025026_4175781808527902950_nPlaying in her fourth IJGT event, Connors posted her best career finish.  After finishing round one standing in third, Connors returned looking to improve in round two.
