Zinser, Abrams battle to the winner’s circle earns them IJGT Player of the Week honors – Oct. 28, 2014

As the IJGT finished up the Northeast Tour fall events, the competition heated up at the Major Championship at Out Door Country Club on October 25-26, 2014. The two-day, 36-hole event featured more than 30 juniors competing for IJGT merit points, national rankings and the title of Major Champion. Following the event, the IJGT is proud to extend IJGT Player of the Week honors to both Teddy Zinser of Alexandria, Va., and Kendel Abrams of New Freedom, Pa.

After the opening round of the Major Championship, Zinser sat in eighth place with a score of 82. Despite his placement in the division, Zinser proved that his struggle with bogeys would not defeat him. Returning for the second and final round, he found his groove and proceeded to shave a staggering 10 strokes from his round one score. Five final-round birdies and eight pars sparked his comeback effort as he found himself moving up the leader board to finish in third place.

His score of even-par 72 in round two was the lowest final round score in the division and earned him the Clazic Belts Low Final Round Award to celebrate his low marks. The event was Zinser’s first of his career with the IJGT.

In her first event of the season and second with the IJGT, Abrams kicked off her performance with a par-or-better streak on holes 6 through 8 to finish with a 2-over-par front nine. Her back nine proved to be more difficult as she began to post some higher scores as she finished the day. Ready to fight back, Abrams returned for round two to make moves in her division. Two birdies and an improvement of two strokes from her round one score helped her inch her way up into third place while also nabbing the Clazic Belts Low Final Round Award for the girls. Her final-round 82 was the lowest of the division.

Abrams’ third-place finish was her first top-three finish of her career after an 11th place finish at the Major Championship at Bulle Rock in April of 2014.

Congratulations to both Teddy and Kendel! We applaud your persistent efforts and will to fight for improvement. We look forward to seeing you in future events!
