IJGT members set to compete in USGA Junior Championships

On Monday, July 20,2015, the U.S. Junior Amateur and U.S. Girls’ Junior will commence with many IJGT members from across the country competing in the nation’s premier junior golf event conducted by the United States Golf Association (USGA). The 68th U.S. Junior Amateur will be contested in the hometown of the IJGT, Bluffton, S.C., at Colleton River Plantation. Here are a list of IJGT members competing in the boys national championship.

  • Evan Brown – Chadds Ford, Pa.
  • Jack Melville – Maple Glen, Pa.
  • Joe Highsmith – Lakewood, Wash.
  • Parker Gillam – Cary, N.C.
  • Marcos Montenegro – Buenos Aires, Argentina
  • Stuart Fuller – Winston-Salem, N.C.
  • Allen Smith – Durham, N.C.
  • Ethan Ng – New York, N.Y.
  • Thomas “Jack” Simpson – Aurora, Ontario

The U.S. Girls’ Junior will be held at Tulsa Country Club in Tulsa, Okla. Here are the list of IJGT members competing.

  • Megan McLean – Lebanon, N.J.
  • Jennifer Cleary – Wilmington, Del.

Best of luck to the 19 IJGT members competing as they look to join past IJGT alumni, I.K. Kim, Julieta Granada, Kevin Tway, Jim Liu, and Hunter Mahan, who won the U.S. Junior Amateur or U.S. Girls’ Junior.

IJGT members at the U.S. Junior Amateur and U.S. Girls Junior

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. – Every year the United States Golf Association (USGA) conducts our nation’s National Championship for junior golfers across the country. This year the International Junior Golf Tour (IJGT) was represented well with 27 total members playing. All players had to qualify for the championship and it is quite an accomplishment to make it into the tournaments.

The U.S. Junior Amateur this year is being held at Martis Camp in Truckee, Calif. The Tom Fazio design is playing over 7,600 yards and marks the longest course in championship history. Here are the IJGT members that qualified for the championship.

A special congratulations to all players that qualified for the match-play portion of the event. After two rounds of stroke-play qualifying, the top 64 were selected to move on in the tournament. The names of IJGT members in bold above advanced to match play.

Currently All-IJGT member Aaron Terrazas of Alvarado, Mexico, is still in contention for the title after two thrilling victories that both went extra holes.

The U.S. Girls’ Junior this year is being held at Sycamore Hills Golf Club in Fort Wayne, Ind. The Jack Nicklaus design is a championship layout featuring very difficult greens and long rough. Here are the IJGT members that qualified for the championship.

Mai Dechathipat of Oakton, Va., was the last IJGT competitor competing in match play. She won her first two matches before falling in the Round of 16. Dechathipat played outstanding golf all the way to the end and deserves to be recognized for an outstanding accomplishment.
