The IJGT traveled to Kiawah Island to host the South Carolina Open at Kiawah Island over Valentine’s Day weekend. Juniors had the opportunity to play the renowned Ocean Course on February 14 and the Turtle Point course on February 15, 2015. During the two-day, 36-hole event, juniors competed in cold and blustery conditions for IJGT Merit Points and national rankings. Following the event, the IJGT is pleased to award this week’s Player of the Week honors to Seneca, S.C., native Jackson Tyler and Olivia Traynor of Villanova, Pa.
Tyler’s lone birdie on the difficult Ocean Course came on the par-3 fifth hole. He finished round one with a score of 91, tying him for 23rd place with one round left to play. Round two began with a shotgun start and Tyler started on the par-4 eighth hole. He made par on the first two holes he played and then carded two birdies on the back nine on the par-5 hole No. 13 and the par-4 hole No. 17. Tyler knocked an impressive 14 strokes off his round one score and shot a 77 in round two. His tournament total of 168 landed him in a tie for seventh place.
Traynor’s fourth-place finish in the South Carolina Open boosted her up 29 spots in the IJGT Tour Rankings. After shooting 104 in round one, Traynor birdied the par-3 seventh hole in round two and shot a 97 for a tournament total of 201. The 15-year-old Traynor also finished fourth in her only other IJGT tournament this season, the IJGT Philly Open at Radley Run Country Club.
Congratulations to both Jackson Tyler and Olivia Traynor on their Player of the Week honors!
