Bluffton, SC: The International Junior Golf Tour resumed play over the weekend as they returned to the Lowcountry, as play of the South Carolina Open was held at Crescent Pointe Golf Club. A strong contingent of local junior golfers, along with a number of international players gathered at the Arnold Palmer Signature course competing for National Junior Golf Rankings.
In the Boys 15-19 Division, play was spectacular as a number of players at one point held the top-spot of the leaderboard. However, on this weekend there could be only one weekend as conditions proved tough during both rounds of play. Local star Johnathan Griz was shined bright on Sunday as he surged up the leaderboard earning himself his first IJGT victory of the season.
Griz, a 2022 graduate who resides in nearby Hilton Head Island, also earned himself the low final round firing a one-under par 70, to go with his 74 earning him a total score of 144.
Finishing closely in second-place is Yannick Artigolle, who had a very impressive weekend after scores of 75 and 71. The resident of Hong Kong earned a final score of 146. Tying in third-place are Ronan Cowhey and Lou Tan. Cowhey, a former resident of Dublin, Ireland and student of the nearby International Junior Golf Academy, put together solid rounds of 76 and 74. Lou Tan finished his weekend with rounds of 76 and 74 as well, both totaling at a final score of 150.
For the Girls Division, local-standout Sophia Burnett was able to go wire-to-wire for her second victory of the IJGT season. Burnett was able to hold onto the lead despite the windy gusts provided at Crescent Pointe, shooting scores of 75 and 76 for her final score of 151.
Rounding at the top three and tying for second-place are Maria Fernanda Sosa and Katherine Hesse. Sosa, formerly of Monterrey, Mexico, had a solid final round of 75 to go with her opening-round of 82. Hesse, who hails from Bremen, Germany, earned scores of 77 and 80 to earn her 157 total finish.
Taking first-place in the Boys 14 & Under Division is Eduard Tor Clemente of Spain. Tor Clemente had a solid weekend with scores of 85 and 84. In second-place is Tomas Junquera of Spain. Junquera earned himself scores of 85 and 88 over the weekend. Rounding out the top three is Muhamad Izwan Zaini. A former resident of Malaysia, Zaini finished the weekend with scores of 91 and 89.
The IJGT will make its way back to the Northeast part of the United States for Easter Weekend, as play of the Jersey Tee Off Classic at Greate Bay will take place. To view more about this event, or an upcoming event near you be sure to visit the schedules tab on IJGT.com.
