Daly Seals the Deal; Wins in Opening Weekend for 2019

Wire-to-Wire Winner to start off New Season, Daly II Claims Victory at MetroWest Classic


Orlando, FL: The International Junior Golf Tour resumed play over the weekend with its first of many events taking place in 2019. The first stop of the tour for this Spring was the playing of the MetroWest Classic in beautiful Orlando for a weekend with some of the top juniors in the game competing for national rankings, IJGT Merit points, and winners earning an automatic invitation the 2019 Faldo Series U.S. Grand Final.


John Daly II of Clearwater, FL earned his first victory of 2019 claiming first-place in the Boys U18 Division. Daly II, son of PGA Legend John Daly and current student at Bishops Gate Golf Academy, put together fantastic consecutive rounds in difficult conditions, shooting an opening 70 (2-Under Par) Saturday followed by a 73 on Sunday afternoon. This the seventh all-time victory as part of the IJGT for Daly II.


In second-place for the Boys U18 Division is Egor Zotov of Moscow, Russia, who ends the weekend with rounds of 74 and 73 for a 147 total finish. Rounding out the top-three is Niels Schmidlin of Zug, Switzerland. Schmidlin concluded the 36-hole contest with rounds of 77 and 74 for a 151 total score. Like Daly II, both Zotov and Schmidlin are also current students of Bishops Gate Golf Academy.


Girls U18, Manhua Chen

In the Girls U18 Division, competition was closely watched from the opening tee-shot until the final putt. Standing alone after two-tough rounds of play was Manhua Chen of Guangdong, China. Chen, who also is a current Senior at Bishops Gate Golf Academy, played solid all weekend finishing with rounds of 72 and 74, a total score of 146. Securing second-place for the MetroWest Classic is Miriam Ayora. Ayora, of Barcelona, Spain and a current student at Leadbetter Golf Academy, ended her solid weekend after shooting scores of 71 and 79 for a total of 150. And finishing third for the weekend competition is Hana Yasuda of Kanawagu, Japan. Yasuda, the 2019 graduate now attending Leadbetter Golf Academy, finished off the weekend with scores of 80 then 81 on Sunday.


Boys U16 Champion, JeongJoo Kim

One of the most impressive performances of the weekend came from the Boys U16 Division, as JeongJoo Kim took home first-place in his IJGT debut. Kim, of Yongin, South Korea and current student of the International Junior Golf Academy, put together a stellar weekend with some highlight worthy shots. Kim finished off the weekend with scores of 70 and 75, for a total score of 145.


In a two-way tie for second-place with a total score of 150 are Elias Turner and Eduaro Garcia. Turner, a native of Veracruz, Mexico and current student at Leadbetter Golf Academy, capped off the weekend Sunday with a 77 to go with his opening-round 73. Garcia, another native of Mexico and current student at Bishops Gate Golf Academy rounds out the weekend after scores of 74 and 76.


Girls U16 Champion, Loa Johannsson

Our final weekend winner at MetroWest and surprise standout, is Girls U16 Champion Loa Johannsson of Champions Gate, FL. A 2024 graduate, Johannsson was able to go wire-to-wire for her victory at MetroWest with rounds of 75 and 81 for a 156 total score.


Trailing but only one stroke but walking away in second-place is Maria Fedorowycz. The native of Kyiv, Ukraine and current student at Bishops Gate Golf Academy, Fedorowycz ended her weekend after rounds of 81 and 76 for a 157 total score. Rouding out the top-three for the weekend is One Kashima of Tochigi, Japan. Kashima, a current student at the International Junior Golf Academy, finishes off the weekend with rounds of 80 and 82 for a grand total of 162.


The International Junior Golf Tour will resume play once again on February 23-24, with the playing of the first Faldo Series Qualifier of the 2019 calendar year as the Faldo Series Georgia Championship takes center stage at the popular Club at Savannah Harbor. The top finishers in each of the competing Age Divisions (Boys 19U & 16U, Girls 19U & 16U), will earn automatic invitations to the Faldo Series U.S. Grand Final later in 2019.
