Murata Puts on a Clinic Earning First-Place at Orange Lake Open
Murata earns second victory of IJGT Season; goes wire-to-wire for first victory in 2018
Kissimmee, FL: The International Junior Golf Tour returned to the sun-filled skies and warm temperatures of Central Florida this past weekend, as the playing of the Orange Lake Open took place at The Reserve Course at Orange Lake Resort. A heavy internationally based field gathered outside of Orlando for the event as players competed for national junior golf rankings, while the winners of the respective divisions earned invitations to the Faldo Series U.S. Grand Final in the Fall of 2018.
For the Boys 15-19 Division, Kotaro Murata started fast and never looked back on the competition. Holding a 3-stroke lead headed into the final round, Murata flashed his brilliant play yet again shooting a 72 during Sunday’s round, to go with his opening round of 71.
Murata, a native of Matsuyania City, Ehime, Japan and a current student at the International Junior Golf Academy, earns himself his second victory of the IJGT season and first of the new year here in 2018.
Following out the top three and finishing in second-place is Simone Colozza of Italy. Colozza, a current student at Bishops Gate Golf Academy, put together weekend scores of 75 and 76 for a total of 151. Rounding out the top-three is Jack Hughes. The Snowmass Village, Colorado native by way of Bishops Gate, played consistently throughout the weekend with scores of 76 each, to total 152.
In the Girls Division, Chiara Arya earned herself her first IJGT victory of the season with scores of 75 and 78 Sunday afternoon. Arya, who hails from Jakarta, Indonesia and is also a Bishops Gate academy student, has committed to play golf next fall at Wichita State University.
Following her closely in second-place is Maria Fedorowycz, who had a stellar Sunday round of 77 to go with her opening round 80. Fedorowycz is a native of Kyiv, Ukraine and student of nearby Bishops Gate Golf Academy. Rounding out the top-three is Alexandra Cornell of Poole, England. Cornell had a superb weekend as well, putting together scores of 80 and 79 for a 159 total finish.
And lastly, in the competition for the Boys 14 & Under crown, Zaid Khan lit up the leaderboard Sunday afternoon with a score of 70 (1-under Par) to fully complete his first victory of his IJGT career. Khan opened the weekend with an 85 to go with his 70 on Sunday, earning himself a total finish of 155. Khan is currently a student of the International Junior Golf Academy from El Dorado Hills, CA.
Earning second-place for the weekend is Muhamad Izwan Zaini of Seri Kembangan, Malaysia. Zaini earns himself yet another top-three finish, after earning scores of 84 and 79 over the weekend at Orange Lake. Rounding out the top-three is Jimmy Wei of Windermere, FL. Wei finished his weekend at a total score of 173, after scores of 88 and 85.
The IJGT returns to the Northeast part of the United States next weekend as two Faldo Series Qualifiers will take place. Playing of the Faldo Series New Jersey Championship will be held at the popular Architects Golf Club in Lopatcong, NJ. The Faldo Series Pennsylvania Championship will also be taking place outside of Philadelphia at White Manor Country Club.
The Faldo Series Grand Final will take place later on this year in 2018, at Bella Collina Golf Club in Montverde, FL.
