Weekend Recap: Palmetto Classic at Hilton Head Lakes


Toronto Native Wins Second IJGT Event of the Season


Hardeeville, SC: The International Junior Golf Tour kicked off the month of November by hosting The Palmetto Classic at The Golf Club at Hilton Head Lakes on November 3-4. Over 60 junior golfers from the Lowcountry and abroad gathered at the beautiful Tommy Fazio design course for two-rounds of stroke play competition.

Toronto, CA Native and current student at the Junior Players Golf Academy (JPGA) Ty Sullivan was able to secure first-place over the weekend. Sullivan fought his way up the leaderboard Sunday shooting a 73 to pair with his opening round of 73, good for a 146 (4-over Par) total finish. Sullivan, who won his first IJGT event of the season at the Lowcountry Shootout, has committed to play college golf at the University of Nevada Las Vegas (UNLV).

Claiming second-place at The Palmetto Classic is Hoshi Yadav of Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Yadav, a current student at the International Junior Golf Academy (IJGA) led after round-one with a 1-under 71, followed by a 76 on Sunday afternoon. The Holy Names University commitment finished the weekend with a total score of 147 (5-over Par). Rounding out the top-three for the weekend is Kotaro Murata. A native of Matsuyania City, Ehime, Japan and current Senior at IJGA, Murata had the low final round for the field carding a 1-under Par 71, to pair with his opening round score of 77.

For the Boys Under 16 Division, David Xu of Shanghai, China was able to secure his first victory of the IJGT season at Hilton Head Lakes. The current student at Bishops Gate Golf Academy (BGGA), Xu concluded his weekend with scores of 76 and 77 to earn the first-place finish.

Finishing in second-place is Muhamad Zaini, of Seri Kembangan, Malaysia after shooting scores of 77 and 77 again on Sunday. The IJGA student finishes the weekend with a total of 154. Coming in third-place for the Boys U-16 Division is Patrick Sun. Sun, who is also an IJGA student by way of Dalian, China, earned weekend scores of 73 and 82.


Sophia Burnett was crowned champion in the Girls Under 19 division over the weekend at Hilton Head Lakes. The local star of Bluffton, SC had a big finish on Sunday shooting an even-Par 72 to pair with her opening round 75. Burnett ends the weekend with at 147 total score.

Claiming second-place is Katharina Hesse of Bremen, Germany. Hesse, who is also a current student at the JPGA ended the weekend after consecutive rounds of 75 for a 150 total score. Rounding out the top-three is a two-way tie with Hannah Conroy and Sae Saito sharing the honors. Conroy, a JPGA student formerly of Cheswick, PA put together rounds of 81 and 78, while Saito, a current IJGA student from Tokyo, Japan ended with rounds of 79 and 80.

In the final competing division for The Palmetto Classic, One Kashima earned top honors for her weekend performance after rounds of 74 and 77. Kashima, who is a current student at IJGA and formerly of Tochigi, Japan, finished with a total score of 151 for the two-day competition.

Securing a second-place finish for the weekend is Vasundhara Singh Thiara of Chandigarh, India. Thiara, who is now a current student at IJGA, concluded her weekend with scores of 79 and 74, ends the competition with a final tally of 153. Rounding out the top-three for the weekend is local standout Camila Burnett. Burnett had a solid weekend with scores of 79 and 81 for a 160 total score.


The next scheduled event for the International Junior Golf Tour will be the long awaited Faldo Series U.S. Grand Final. The event is scheduled for November 30-December 2 and will be held at Bella Collina Golf Club in Montverde, FL.
