Tournament Recap – Winter Classic at Oldfield

On January 28-29, Oldfield Golf Club hosted the IJGT’s Winter Classic. Carson Barbe of Beckville, TX won the Boys 15-19 Division with a Round 1 score of 1-under-par 71 and shooting 3-over par, 74, in Round 2. Barbe is currently enrolled in a post-grad year at Bishops Gate Golf Academy in Howey-in-the-hills, FL and plans to attend Mississippi State as a preferred walk-on to the golf team.

In 2nd Place for the Boys 15-19 Division, Florian Blatti of Epalinges, Switzerland and student at Bishops Gate Golf Academy recovered from an 80 in Round 1 to shoot a 2-under par 70 in Round 2. Saptak Talwar of New Delhi, India came in 3rd shooting 72-80.

In the Girls Division, Bluffton local and IJGA/Heritage Academy senior, Kayla Kozak won shooting 77-74. Kozak is committed to play golf at the University of Central Florida in fall of 2017. In 2nd place, Chiara Arya of Jakarta, Indonesia shot 86-83 followed by Rachel Smith of North Yarmouth, ME who shot 86-87.

John Daly II, son of professional golfer John Daly and student at Bishops Gate Golf Academy shot 75-80 to win the Boys 14 & Under Division by 3 strokes. Coming back strong in Round 2, Julian Sanchez-Garcia of Merida, Mexico shot 81-77. In third place, Bluffton local Andrew Swanson shot 81-79.

IJGT will host the Florida Junior at Orange County National on February 11-12 and will be back in the lowcountry at Savannah Harbor for the Georgia Open February 25-26.
