The International Junior Golf Tour kicks off the Spring Season with The Winter Shootout at TPC Tampa Bay in Lutz, Fla. on January 11-12, 2014. The two-day, 36-hole tournament will be hosted by TPC Tampa Bay. Players will be competing for national rankings as well as IJGT Merit Points.
Built in 1991, TPC Tampa Bay plays to a par-71 and features a variety of tees stretching from 5,036 yards to 6,898 yards. The course was designed by Bobby Weed, a protégé of Pete Dye. Weed also designed TPC at River Highlands in Connecticut, TPC at Summerlin in Nevada, and TPC Las Vegas. The course weaves through natural wetlands, cypress heads and numerous ponds and lagoons, home to a variety of wildlife. The course received a four-star ranking from Golf Digest and is consistently voted the top course in Tampa Tribune’s Reader Choice Awards. In 2010, TPC Tampa Bay was ranked as the 13th Best Public Golf Facility in GolfWorld Magazine’s Reader’s Choice Poll.
Shogo Ito of Tokyo, Japan, and Ritwik Jain New Delhi, India headline the Boys 15-19 Division. Ito already grabbed one IJGT victory this season, coming out on top at the Florida Junior at Black Diamond Ranch. Jain has posted consecutive top-10 finishes, having placed 10th at the Thanksgiving Day Classic at TPC Sawgrass, and a tie for 9th at the IJGA Invitational.
