Why They Matter and How They Work
The IJGT is pleased to offer a ranking system that showcases the top players on the tour in each division throughout the IJGT season. These rankings are used for preferred registration and selection into the IJGT Major Championships and Invitational events. At the end of the season, the Top 10 in each age division will be named to the All Tournament Team and be honored at the awards banquet hosted as part of the Bridgestone Golf Tournament of Champions event. IJGT Rankings also determine which players qualify for exemptions into other prestigious Junior Amateur events.
All participants are eligible to earn Merit Points toward the Tour Rankings. A player must have one (1) IJGT event within the season to be ranked and the best five (5) finishes will count towards the rankings.
** Major Championships and Invitational Events are worth double merit points**
If there are ties for a specific place, the IJGT Merit Points will be split evenly. For example, a three-player tie for 2ndPlace would result in each player receiving 850 Merit Points (2550 total points for 2nd, 3rd and 4th, divided evenly among three players). No points are awarded to players who do not finish the competition.
Many IJGT tournaments will offer AJGA Performance Stars to top finishers. Visit the specific tournament info page for exact details associated with each event. In 1999 Golfweek Magazine became a title sponsor to the nationally recognized ranking system known as Golfweek/Sagarin Performance Index for juniors.
Jeff Sagarin’s rating system is based on a mathematical formula that uses a player’s won-lost-tied record against other players when they play on the same course on the same day. The stroke differential between those players then links all players based on common opponents. The ratings give an indication of who is playing well over the past 52 weeks.
For junior tournaments to be considered to be included in the Golfweek/Titleist Junior rankings database the following conditions are recommended:
The Junior Golf Scoreboard typically receives results from more than 1,500 tournaments worldwide and ranks approximately 6,000 – 7,000 players at any one time.
The Junior Golf Scoreboard system is based on a formula that reviews a player’s record in 36-hole or longer tournaments over the last 365 days. Tournaments drop out of the calculation after one year. A player must have four (4) events within the year to be ranked.
The criteria is as follows:
